- Goitein suggests that this is simply Arabic zakāt and implies that the building was erected in discharge of dues payable to God. While I would not give an unreserved assent to this, two things could be said in its favour. One is that it carries an ancient tradition from the Minaean texts, which regularly record that buildings were erected out of tithes payable to the deity. The other is that it might help to explain the unexpected repetition of the preposition in brdʾ/wbzkt
